I was making a recipe that called for poultry seasoning, when I realized I didn’t have any, so, I decided to make my own. This recipe is quick and easy, and you probably have all these herbs and spices in your pantry.
Ingredients:
4 teaspoons dried sage
3 teaspoons dried thyme
2 teaspoons dried marjoram
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons dried rosemary
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (it seems strange to add nutmeg to poultry seasoning, but the little bit of nutmeg really brings the flavors together and you can't taste the nutmeg)
1 teaspoon black or white pepper
Optional: a pinch of garlic powder
Instructions:
Mix the herbs and spices in a small bowl.
You may grind the spices a little bit in a coffee grinder or magic bullet reserved for herbs and spices. You don't need them powdered - just fine.
Transfer the mixture to an airtight container.
Label the jar and store it with your other spices.
Use your poultry seasoning for Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, gravy, as well as in chicken or pork dishes.
