About Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a beautiful, ancient system of healing that began in India more than 5,000 years ago according to many sources. The word itself can be translated as “the science of longevity” or “the sacred knowledge of life,” reflecting its deep respect for the wisdom of nature and the human body.

In Ayurveda, we understand both the world and ourselves through the five elements — ether, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements combine within us to form three vital energies, known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These energies guide and support all of our physical and mental processes.

Each of us is born with a unique blend of these three energies. This natural blueprint is called our Prakruti, or original constitution — our own perfect state of balance and well-being. As we move through life, however, factors such as stress, diet, daily habits, and our environment can gently shift us away from that balance. This current state of imbalance is known as Vikruti, and over time it may contribute to discomfort or illness.

By compassionately discovering your natural constitution (Prakruti) and understanding where imbalance (Vikruti) may be present, you gain powerful insight into how to care for yourself in a way that feels aligned and supportive. Ayurveda invites you back to balance — not through force, but through awareness, nourishment, and gentle adjustments that honor your unique nature.
