Nettles - Another of Nature's Painkillers

Updated: Apr 14

Nettles (Urtica dioica), commonly called stinging nettles, is an old folk remedy for treating muscle and joint pain, including arthritis and gout. It has other benefits, but let’s focus on its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

In one research, subjects with osteoarthritis applied a nettle cream to their joints two-times daily. 95% of the participants found relief; and many of the subjects wanted to continue using the cream after the study was over. Other studies showed that taking an oral extract of nettles helped people reduce their intake of NSAIDs. More research needs to be conducted, but this sounds promising.

I have a Nettle Salve for those who wish to massage it into their achy muscles or joints. It has the added benefits of the essential oils of Lavender (pain reliever), Peppermint (pain reliever), and Helichrysum (anti-inflammatory and a cell regenerator). You could also try the liquid extract, which I sell on my site; go to Nettle Leaf Tincture.

So if you suffer from muscle or joint pain, give nettles a try.
