This rich smoothie helps build body strength and resilience as the cold days of winter approach. Be sure to use room-temperature almond milk; if it's right from the fridge, it will shock your digestive system. The almond butter is a good source of protein; and in fact, almonds provide more protein per serving than any other nut. Almonds also contain calcium and magnesium, which nourish the bones, as well as the smooth muscles found in the digestive and cardiovascular systems. Dates contain phytohormones that resemble oxytocin, the "love" hormone. Dates are also a complex carbohydrate, which means they release their sugars more slowly into your bloodstream and curb your appetite longer than simple, refined sugars. Lastly, both cinnamon and cardamom are warming spices and help with digestion.
